Rhonda Denet is hailed as a virtuoso that lends her flair to every song she sings. When she performs, Denet invites her audience to surrender to the groove and make new memories with old music. Based in Newark, New Jersey, the jazz/soul vocalist, songwriter, bandleader, music historian, and entrepreneur makes a full-time living doing what she LOVES…making music.
Denet grew up in Washington, DC and realized that music would be a driving force in her life at an early age. Her commitment to her passion brought her to New York where she earned a Bachelor of Music in Vocal Performance from New York University. Her entrepreneurial spirit inspired her to further her studies at Florida State University where she earned a Master of Arts in Arts Administration. Following her graduate studies, Denet returned to New York City with a conviction not only to become an active member of its vibrant musical community but to create new opportunities that would reflect her soulful artistic expression. She spent several years writing and producing her brand of soul-infused cabaret, forming and working with a few bands and developing original music.
In 2006 Rhonda Denet lost her maternal grandmother following a 4-month stay in the hospital. One of the things that connected them was the music. It was Rhonda’s singing that comforted her grandmother in her last months. Honored to have had the gift of song during that time, Rhonda decided to create a music program to comfort others in similar situations. This is what inspired the Silver Fox Songs Showcase Series. She committed herself to performing full-time to realize her vision of bringing joy through music. This series continues to bring live music to appreciative populations at various community service organizations and celebrates American classics from Jazz to Soul.
In addition to this series, Rhonda’s professional career allows her to perform throughout the New York metropolitan region and across the country with appearances at concert halls, theaters, clubs, resorts, museums, and premier wedding venues. In 2010, she released a self-produced EP of original music entitled “Another Day” which was followed by a full-length LIVE album, “Bliss & The Eclectic Soul” in the Spring of 2013. Her latest project, “Perfectly Human,” was released in January 2017.
When all in-person performances were canceled in 2020, Denet started a
mini-concert series called BLISS BREAKS. The concerts livestream on YouTube the first and third Wednesdays of each month at 6:30 PM. She also transitioned to offer the Silver Fox Songs series as pre-recorded videos and live streamed events. Currently she is developing a Video-on-Demand service that will offer the Silver Fox Songs Showcase Series to libraries, assisted living, retirement, and community organizations across the country.
